Craziness

Wow I haven't posted in ages. Just been busy finishing up classes and getting nursing school stuff together.

This past Friday was All Sig Day at Mississippi State. It was so much fun to get a day to just chill out and have fun (dressed as a red neck of course).  Maggie and I find ourselves sitting at the Bin deciding we want to take a spontaneous trip to Oxford... and spontaneous it was. Ali drove us there and we had so much fun! It was derby days in Oxford and they were having a party at the Sigma Chi house. We ended up staying some of Saturday to watch derby days and go to the luau afterwards. Probably the most random thing I've ever done without planning ahead of time. Such a great decision!

It's crazy to think that one week from today I'll FINALLY be 21! This is also our last full week of class. I have three weeks left of being a Mississippi State student. I feel like I should still be a freshman living in the dorm. Where has the time gone?

This weekend is Super Bulldog Weekend and it's always a blast so I'm counting down the days until Friday!

Have a blessed week!

Adventures

Went to Oxford this weekend for Hayseed and had so much fun seeing everyone and having a good time. I did manage to completely bust it (I'm so graceful) and cut my leg. Turns out it got pretty infected so I went to the health center and went back today for my results of the culture. Turns out I have two different bacteria and the Doctor tells me I shouldn't go to Oxford anymore because it's a dirty place. I may not agree but it made me laugh.

Derby Days is this weekend! I'm pretty excited to see everyone's dances.

Derby Days '11

Received another big packet from nursing school of things to fill out and from all the forms I've been filling out, I have determined that forms are sometimes ambiguous. Some things they ask all I can think is "what does this mean?" maybe I just think too much into it.

p.s.- it's weird going to the same parties as my brother.

Confessions of a student nurse

I came across this blog earlier today and I have NOT stopped reading it! It's called Confessions of a Student Nurse and is written by a nursing student (from 2005) named Katie. I love how brutally honest she is about the good, bad, and ugly. Her honesty is making me feel even better about nursing school!

Take a look..

Spring Break

This spring break was amazing! Even though I went back to Jackson for the week I got so much accomplished that I needed to do.

My week started off with shadowing at my mom's office, she works in a dermatologist office where they specialize in skin cancer. It was interesting to say the least... I will say I got better as the day went on. I was able to watch some biopsies and even a botox injection.

I had lunch with all the grandparents and did a ton of shopping. My new favorite thing is bright skinny jeans!! I have a pair of coral ones from Anthropologie  and love them!

I have a huge packet UMC sent me that I'm getting done for nursing school and I was able to check physical and tuberculosis test off the list. (and in case you were wondering I came back negative for TB). I'm still having trouble finding a CPR class either through the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association so if anyone knows of any classes please let me know!

I experienced my very first St. Patty's Day Parade in Jackson. I'm  not sure how I've managed to go 20 years living in Jackson and never been to the parade before. I had so much fun and can't wait to go back next year!

We found Mrs. Mary Anne and Dave!!

Can't wait to go back to Oxford this weekend for KA Hayseed (might as well go while I still can)! Here's to a good week!

Something To Laugh At...

Okay this blog post is about NOTHING serious. I'm posting it because I feel like everyone is in kind of a slump and just counting down the hours until spring break and people just need a good laugh right about now.

I came across this show over Christmas break called "An Idiot Abroad". Basically it's a show about a guy named Karl who is sent around the world by his friends (Ricky Gervais and a guy named Steve). What makes it so absolutely hilarious is Karl's awful attitude about the whole thing, he completely hates it (and he's British).

On season one they sent him to the seven wonders of the world, and on season two they give him a bucket list to choose things off of.

Here is some background on the clip I'm posting: Karl was sent to New Zealand to bungee jump and he absolutely refuses to do it (I would too), so they decide to send him to the place where the bungee jump originated. Now this just isn't any bungee jump, it's called a LAND DIVE; and it is located in a remote village. It's absolutely crazy to watch these people jump with vines around their ankles and land on the ground, but it's even better to watch Karl do it.

If you're looking for a good laugh on this Tuesday here you go:
***DISCLAIMER: since it is a third world village there is some nudity and some bad language, but we're all adults right?? and don't do this at home.***

And if you didn't laugh I'm sorry, I hope you at least appreciate the psycho people who jumped off the top.

Sunny Days

Even though I am one to love the winter, I have been obsessed with this weather. I wish it would stay like this year round and the water would just be warm enough to swim in. Yesterday, Maggie and I played tennis for an hour and a half because it was so pretty outside. To say the right side of my body is sore would be an understatement.

I decided about a week ago to go home for spring break instead of going to the beach. I really need to go home and do some shadowing before nursing school starts and since I will be so busy the month of May, spring break is really my last chance. I'm not too upset about missing out on the beach since I will be going to Cancun in May for a week.

I am going to Oxford next weekend for Groundhog Day and I'm so beyond excited to be going! Ready to see all my Ole Miss friends and it's a change from Starkville and Jackson. Plus all this pretty weather puts me in the mood for a spring party!

I had a picture from Groundhog Day last year but I can't find it now :( .... and let's just say it's a miracle no one came out of it last year with pneumonia.

ONLY 56 more days till I'm FINALLY 21... sheesh.

It's Been a Long While

It has been so long since I have updated my blog! I've been extra busy the past two weeks but since I'm supposed to be studying for a test I figured this would be the best time to update.

Last weekend my grandfather Papaw passed away. I grew up with three grandfathers because Papaw was my Dad's step dad. For the longest time (until an age where I should have known better) I thought it was normal to have 3 grandfathers. I thought everyone did, and I never questioned why my Mom would only have one Dad. I love Papaw just like he was blood and have some amazing memories growing up playing at my grandparents house.

Rest In Peace

I was so surprised to find out I was accepted to UMC nursing school so soon. To say I was stressed out while at work yesterday would be an understatement, and then to find out about that I was shocked. Probably the last thing I was expecting but it made my day so much better!

This week consists of two tests, a date party tomorrow, and the Mardi Gras Ball on the coast to see my friend be the Queen. There are definitely not enough days in the weekend... My p90x has been off and on the past 2 weeks with everything I have going on and the last minute funeral. Hope to get back on track everyday next week. Here's to hoping for the best!

Slightly Crazy Phobia

Almost complete with my first week of p90x. Tonight I'm doing Kenpo and tomorrow is stretch. I like everything so far except the Yoga X. I'm already not the biggest yoga fan because it's so slow and just muscle control but it's an hour and a half long. That's a long time doing something I don't really care for. Maybe I'll learn to love it?

I'm so ready for spring break to get here!! Even though we are going back to Destin for the third year in a row I have high expectations. This year we got our own house across the street on scenic 98. It has it's own pool and everything. Can't believe I've already been in school a month.. the time goes by fast but days go by slow it feels like.

part of the spring break '11 group

Found out in my abnormal psychology class that I have "blood injection phobia". Yes and I'm going to nursing school hahaha. It's a biological based phobia that runs mostly in families (my dad has it) and it is different from other phobias because normally when you are "afraid" your heart rate speeds up and your sympathetic nervous system kicks in. With blood injection phobia (sometimes) the sight of blood causes your heart rate to drop so low that you feint (or get pretty close). Turns out the reason this happens is because throughout time and "survival of the fittest" if you were in war and injured, if your heart rate slowed, the slowing of the heart would slow blood loss, so you live longer. Kinda cool my body does it to protect me (even though I don't need protecting in most all situations). But with most any phobia it can be cured by being around it enough so I'll be visiting my mother in her work to watch some surgeries. Even though it's embarrassing it's still kinda cool that my body will do crazy things to keep me alive.

Just to clarify, blood is not something that "scares" me. I just sometimes have a reaction that I can't control (yet). And I'm not afraid of needles (3 allergy shots a week). Just as a point of clarification.

A Little Bit of Everything

Sorry I was not able to update on Thursday night, I was at Coach Branning's visitation longer than expected. This weekend was crazy busy and exhausting. Friday afternoon I went and visited my grandfather in the hospital who is in kidney failure. It was great to see him but sad at the same time.

On a less depressing note I did manage to start p90x!! I had to start on Saturday so I have done Core Synergistics and Cardio X. I was pretty sore today from the core synergistics and I'm sure I will be sore tomorrow from the Cardio. I really enjoyed the cardio because I HATE HATE HATE running, so the cardio was a great way to get my heart rate up without getting bored. The one I'm most nervous about it the 90 minute yoga. Not the biggest yoga fan because it's so slow and requires so much muscle control (I have zero upper body strength).

I've talked before about what I am looking forward to about moving back to Jackson, and being able to go back to Christ United Methodist Church every Sunday is something I'm excited about. It was an amazing service this morning with great music. My family goes to the Vibe service so it is more contemporary. This morning we were anointed with an oil cross on our foreheads, so I'm sure in the next few days I will have a break out in the shape of a cross hahaha.

Well I better start packing so I can go back to Starkville and get my school life back together.

Another Beginning

Well, I received my p90x and I'm looking over everything and getting myself figured out. I'm doing the first work out tomorrow and I've already watched some of it... I'm going to struggle. This is a really short post for now but I'll do another short one tomorrow night letting y'all know how it went.

I'm going back to Jackson tomorrow for Coach Branning's visitation and his funeral on Friday. It just still doesn't seem real to associate him with death. Thinking of the amazing memories and knowing he is in heaven keep a smile on my face. Tomorrow and Friday will be hard on everyone, especially his family, so I would really appreciate the prayers for everyone.

Rest In Peace Coach Branning. I'll still be telling my kids stories about the amazing man who coached me in softball.

Relient K

I know most of y'all have heard of the band Relient K. I have been obsessed with them ever since I won one of their CD's at youth group in probably the 9th grade. I think the reason why I love their music so much is because of the humor that's in them. It's the blatantly obvious and ironic that make me laugh I guess. One of the funniest ones is A Penny Loafer Saved is a Penny Loafer Earned.

But, my literal ALL TIME favorite Relient K song is Deathbed. I know it sounds depressing but it is from the point of view of a man who is dying on his death bed and he looks back at his life and what got him to where he is today. If you really listen there is some humor in his life and a lot of things I know I struggle with. My favorite has to be at the end though when it switches to the dying man asking forgiveness for killing the lamb and God is there for him. There's no way to really explain it and do it justice.. I suggest just listening to the song and make sure to keep listening after the long instrumental part! It's amazing how forgiving our God really is.

Well, since I'm getting super sick of the crazy amounts of people at the Sanderson Center, and having such a busy week with class, work, and all the study hours for KD official visit I have decided to buy p90x. I think right now it is a good option for me because of my 9-5 schedule all day and crazy weeks like this when I have required things at night. p90x will be a great convenience for me, being able to do it at home.

I know I'm going to die the first week but I'm going to make myself do it and hopefully it will work! I'm staying optimistic for now. Will be sure to update with how the first workout goes and the pain the next day when it finally comes in. I have been weirdly obsessed with oranges lately. It's so weird.

Zumba!

I love Zumba. For those of you who don't know what Zumba is, it is an aerobics type class that is dancing. Specifically, I love the Zumba class in Starkville. It will definitely be something I miss when I move back to Jackson because the class at Northeast in Jackson isn't as intense and it's more Latin American dancing than hip hop.

Two things I won't miss about the Sanderson Center are 1) all the people and 2) the machines don't have tv's on them. I know I'm spoiled but it helps me stay on longer if I tell myself to make it through a show.

I've recently come to the realization that I actually like tuna fish. 1 serving of tuna fish chunked light + 1 tablespoon of light mayo + 1 teaspoon of mustard + 5 whole wheat ritz crackers = 138 calories. Not a bad deal especially when you might not be starving or wanting to eat anything heavy. Since I had a bigger lunch I decided to have this for dinner so I wouldn't be sick when I went to work out, and ate an apple when I got back. Not too shabby.

Can't believe I'm already two days into class. I really miss my tennis class from last semester... if anyone wants to play anytime please let me know!!

Now everyone go try a Zumba class! (and to get a good work out you have to get into it and look like an idiot)

Bittersweet Symphony

I'm not a great writer, or a creative writer, but I decided to start a blog as part of my New Years resolution. I know it sounds cliche but posting something for the world to see makes you stick to it. Cannot believe I (hopefully) only have one semester left of college! Where did the time go? Leaving Mississippi State will be bittersweet. Ready to go to nursing school but not ready to leave Starkville and my Bulldog family.

Every summer our family goes to Destin for the family trip, but this year the family is going to Cancun for the JA Senior trip. Yay I get to be that awkward aged person there but who in their right mind would turn down a free trip to Mexico? So this blog is to help keep me motivated so I can get physically healthy before going in May. Not only to get in shape but also to work on me. Being more adventurous, reading more books, going out more, working on my relationship with God, and making as many memories this last semester of college as possible.

Yesterday my mom and I went to our very first spin class, and let's just say those bike seats are not comfortable to sit on... at all. Tonight we are attempting Yogalates to stretch out our sore muscles and to build some strength. Can't wait to get back to Starkville and get on a schedule. (And I'll eventually figure out how to make the blog look better.)

Until next time! xoxo
